Have discovered that we have very hard water and am wondering if this can cause problems with our critters. Calcium is the major culprit; no iron at least. Anyone got the lowdown?

I do not recommend tap water for any critters. They manifest side effects much faster than we do, due to their smaller size and shorter lifespan.
For your critters and your family - do yourself a favor and get a quality filtration system - they range from about $50 for a simple kitchen sink to many thousand for whole house. READ what each filter does and go with the most filtration you can afford. If not, use a Britta Pitcher for the pet's water bowl.
    Good Luck.

--We're opting for the 'many thousands for whole house' option. Hope the critters like the improved taste! :-)

Yippeee (picture dogs doing little excited spins on your behalf!). Your family - both human and critter - will benefit greatly.
