My dogs have been under attack lately. I've treated them all with Advantix and they are tick free now, but the little monsters are still after me. Any tips?

Re: TICKS!
Wed, July 30, 2008 - 9:06 PMThe only piece of advice I have is, if you get a tick stuck to you, and he bites, be sure to get the ENTIRE tick out! They bury their heads underneath your skin, and you have to get it out or else it could make you very sick!
I know this because a friend of mine just had tick fever a couple weeks ago! It's terrible stuff, so do what you can to stay healthy!

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 6:55 AMI LOATHE ticks...I'd try using permetherin...I spray it on my shoes, clothing, baseball cap, etc...and it kills ticks instantly...oh, and it lasts through a couple of washings, too!
Good luck with the nasty critters,

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 7:27 AMYa, I'm an animal rights vegan and pretty much respect every thing's right to live, but it's not like I can remove them and let them go on their merry way when their merry way is onto one of the animals I am responsible for protecting.
If had my own house, I swear I'd run down to the animal shelter and bail out one of the chickens they have. Who am I kidding? I'd bail out a few of them and force the dogs and even the cat to co-exist an let the chickens eat the ticks. I love chickens. -

Sat, August 2, 2008 - 10:24 PMValerie, Just FYI and IMO...
I'd be super careful in using permethrin... it is a neurotoxin and is highly carcinigenic. It destroyed a lot of the honey bee population which is critical to our existence.
I am pretty sure it is in FRONTLINE for fleas and ticks too.

Re: TICKS!
Fri, August 22, 2008 - 8:52 AMI don't often catch the Oprah show, but I just watched an episode with Dr. Oz and he said to get rid of ticks you should only use tweezers and to not worry if the head is still in your skin because it will just eventually dissolve, but if it bugs you, remove it like you would a splinter with tweezers. He said DO NOT use a match or anything like that because it makes the tick regurgitate, which is where the poison and infections such as lyme disease exist in the saliva of the tick so you''ll make it worse by hurting the tick. I haven't ever had a tick nor do I live in tick country, but I definitely made note because it went against everything I've ever heard.
