PETA

Since another poster got all up in arms that mentioning PETA being against pet ownership, claiming that we were attacking them, here is what PETA says *themselves* on the issue:

"We at PETA very much love the animal companions who share our homes, but we believe that it would have been in the animals' best interests if the institution of "pet keeping"—i.e., breeding animals to be kept and regarded as "pets"—never existed. The international pastime of domesticating animals has created an overpopulation crisis; as a result, millions of unwanted animals are destroyed every year as "surplus." This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. Their lives are restricted to human homes where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to."

This is one of the many reasons why I do not support PETA. I cannot "attack" PETA if what I say is true.

THANK YOU for posting this Ms. P!

Ingrid Newkirk needs to step down so PETA can return to some semblance of sanity.

    *Ingrid is pro-banning Pit Bulls - I'm pro-banning Ingrid! :)

these were from a forum that is opposing a mandatory spay and neuter bill in california...

i believe they spell out hsus and peta's intentions to outlaw pet ownership

"One generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding." Wayne Pacelle,
Senior VP of Humane Society of the US, Animal People

"The cat, like the dog, must disappear... We should cut the domestic cat free from our dominance by neutering, neutering, and more neutering, until our pathetic version of the cat ceases to exist." John Bryant, PETA

"As John Bryant has written in his book Fettered Kingdoms, they [pets] are like slaves, even if well-kept slaves." PETA's Statement on Companion Animals.

"Let us allow the dog to disappear from our brick and concrete
jungles--from our firesides, from the leather nooses and chains by which we enslave it." John Bryant, PETA

While I don't have a problem with mandatory spay/neuter save but for the verified and licensed breeders/kennels - this sort of thinking; to eliminate all domestic animals as they are "our slaves" is too extreme (for me)

Domestication occured because we needed to use these animals to help us. That we no longer utilize them for their "intended" use and have them more for companionship shouldn't justify these extreme desires of species elimination, yes?

I think (at least with Ms P and Bar) that I'm preaching to the choir. I don't doubt there are good intentions but the certainly seem very misguided.....very

I don't know what I'd do without my dogs! Since I'm pro VHE, they ARE my children....is that selfish?

I do not like PETA very much .

I give my money to more responsible organzations like the ASPCA and suchlike.
